The Team Survivor concept was born in 1995, as part of the Danskin Triathlon as a way of honoring and supporting the women cancer survivors attending the event.

As an alternative, or compliment, to a standard support group, Team Survivor celebrates life, supports the struggles, and helps women cancer survivors regain their sense of wholeness through active participation in health and fitness programs. Started by noted triathlete, businesswoman, author and fitness guru Sally Edwards, it evolved in Seattle, WA from a one event/training group, into Team Survivor Northwest (TSNW), a year-round health and fitness program for all women cancer survivors. The Danskin Team Survivor is still an active part of Danskin Triathlons around the country.

In 1997, Mary Berg (now Mary Berg Malkiel) an Oncology Nurse and Breast Cancer survivor, founded Rocky Mountain Team Survivor. The group has expanded from doing a once weekly walk, to additional programs such as weekly indoor fitness training, monthly swim clinics, seasonal biking & running workshops, and snowshoe & hiking outings. Regularly scheduled activities occur in Boulder under the leadership of Dora Briegleb and in Longmont under the leadership and Miriam Basart.

Besides the Danskin Triathlon, RMTS members participate in the Race for the Cure, the Boulder Relay for Life and the Bolder Boulder. Rocky Mountain Team Survivor also participates at informational health and exercise related functions such as the Day of Caring.

We have a membership of almost 500 members throughout the Front Range area. If there is not a group in your area, please feel free to contact us via phone of email for assistance and support.

Most RMTS activities are free to participants, and we are proud to have the incredible group of professional and world class trainers and athletes who volunteer their time, the facilities who have donated their space and the professionals who have supplied RMTS with their services. To keep our operations going, we rely on support from grants, fundraising, and donations from caring people like you. RMTS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and all contributions are tax deductible.

All Rocky Mountain Team Survivor activities are open to women of any age, any level of ability, with any form of cancer, and in any stage of treatment, recovery or survivorship. Come join us today!
